Principal's Message

Welcome to Portarlington Primary School. It is my privilege to be the principal of such a wonderful school. Portarlington Primary is an excellent school, which aims to achieve the best possible outcomes in student learning. Our school provides a learning environment where children can have fun, progress in their learning and develop their creativity and curiosity. We offer a school setting where our children feel cared for and valued.

Our school is located on the picturesque Bellarine Peninsula overlooking the bay. Our students reside in Portarlington, Indented Head and St. Leonards and we also have some students who reside further afield and prefer the education that a smaller school offers. Our school offers a before and after school care program, Kelly Club, after school activities.

Our School is organised into learning communities with a focus on student personalised learning.

  • Foundation
  • 1 - 2 Learning Community - this group currently consists of 2 classes
  • 3 - 4 Learning Community consists of 2 classes
  • 4 - 6 Learning Community - there are 3 groups in this area consisting of:
    • one class of students in years 4 and 5
    • Two classes of students in years 5 and 6

Our teachers work in collaborative teams to plan and implement the teaching programs. Each class has a home room teacher however all teachers in the learning communities work together to provide the best learning outcomes for every child. The students are taught by a range of teachers not just the home room teacher.

The school curriculum is based on the Victorian Curriculum. Our facilities include spacious grounds, library, a fruit and vegetable garden and a large hall.

Our technology infrastructure is being constantly updated and we currently have apple TV, 100 laptops and other tablets and mobile devices and also access to multi-media equipment such as videos and cameras.

Portarlington Primary School offers a variety of specialist classes including Language, Visual Arts, STEM & Physical Education.

We pride ourselves on the care we provide for families. Rebecca Pavez is our Wellbeing Coordinator and together with all of our staff, we monitor the welfare, health and wellbeing of our students.

Parents and families are encouraged to be involved in our school through the various parent forums such as the School Council.  We also have many opportunities throughout the year where parents can join in with their children such as special days, sport or other activities.

Our school revolves around the core principles of Kindness, Safety, Responsibility and Respect so that our school is a peaceful, calm and safe place where everyone can learn and achieve success.

The staff and I look forward to sharing your child's educational journey with you.
